Who Am I?
My name is Gordon Banner; I have been a systems administrator for many years, starting with IBM in 1990, and spending nearly 10 years at Morgan Stanley from 1997 to 2007.
I now work as an independent consultant on IT infrastructure, based in London, UK. My specialist technical areas are Documentum and web technologies, but my main interest is in “getting control of the product” – making an unruly collection of installations into a manageable infrastructure which enables reliable delivery of a service at a reasonable cost.
This process tends to start with getting a grip on configuration management – a CMDB in ITIL terms. This cannot stop at a list of instances kept in a spreadsheet, mere documentation on what you expect to find “out there”, and not just something that a discovery tool found to 90% accuracy a week or two ago. Instead it must be a real source of information that drives the live environment. But more about that in other posts.
My CV is attached – I can be reached by sending a mail to: mail at qaboqu dot com.
